The coherence approach to the establishment of truth recognizes the importance of considering the whole in order to determine the truth about the parts. It rests on the assumption that evidence and clues relate to each other in a logical manner and can be helpful in establishing truth. In case of any discrepancy or misfit between the segments of a story, falsehood can be easily revealed. The approach does have utility in the sense that it acknowledges the importance of considering the totality before arriving at the conclusion, however, it is important to realize that the coherence approach may be a necessary condition for the establishment of truth but it is not a sufficient one.
